It's a fact that Welaka is home to some of the best large-mouth bass fishing in the world with the abundant fresh waterways that surround this beautiful Florida river town. There are several tributaries and natural springs in the area that feed the mighty St. Johns River including Blue Springs -- one of the best winter manatee habitats in the state. Day trips and even extended overnight travel is possible along the St. Johns River. Take the river north to Palatka or even all the way to Jacksonville and the mouth at the Atlantic Ocean. Head south to Lake George, Silver Glen Springs, Hontoon Island State Park and Blue Springs. There are marinas, restaurants and even lodging opportunities in both directions.
